Dentures & Partials
with preventative, restorative and cosmetic dentistry in a relaxing and comfortable atmosphere"
A denture is a removable dental appliance replacement for missing teeth and surrounding tissue. They are made to closely resemble your natural teeth and may even enhance your smile. This is usually not the first set of dentures a patient would have had. These are made to replace immediates once they have worn out. Complete dentures have a more complex process before fabrication to get the appearance and bites correct. It's normal to have records appointment, a try-in or 2, and several appointments to adjust to the new dentures. Complete dentures can have different brands or qualities of teeth which can change the price dramatically. (Read More...)
The pink base can be made our of normal acrylic or a plastic called Valplast. After 3-5 years of wearing a denture, it's common to need a lab reline or even a remake of the dentures depending upon the quality of the teeth used in the fabrication. Cheaper dentures wear out faster and don't look as natural.
Immediate Dentures are fabricated to replace your teeth on the day of tooth removal. They are placed right over where the teeth were removed. This begins a healing process that begins the months ahead of gum/bone shrinkage and smoothing of the tissues. During this time you will visit our office periodically for a soft liner called "coe-soft". This liner is temporary and will eventually be replaced with another procedure called "lab relines or rebases". Rebase will totally remake the pink part of the denture to be brand new with the same existing teeth that were in your denture at the beginning of the process. Many options exist at this point and the dentist will discuss them with you at anytime you wish along the way.
Examination of Existing Restorations
Limited exams are focused only on the emergency or isolated issues. Comprehensive exams, however, are total mouth check-ups that can be done during a first cleaning or first visit. This will also accompany radiographs, visual cancer screening, visual gum exam, visual and mechanical or laser check for dental caries (cavities). After this exam, it's not uncommon to for the dentist to sit and explain what they found and options to solve the problems.
