Dentures & Partials in Tulsa

If you are missing one or more teeth, dentures or partial dentures may be the right restorative option for you. Dentures have been used for centuries, and modern dentures are still a great way to replace missing teeth so that you can smile, speak, and chew naturally.

Dr. Wrany Southard of Southard Dental has been restoring patients’ smiles for years with dentures, and if you’re in need of replacement teeth, the team at Southard Dental is happy to help.

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures are used to replace one or several missing teeth in the mouth. Often, they are used when a dental bridge or implants would be impractical. For example, if a patient is missing multiple teeth from different areas of the mouth, treatment with dental implants or bridges may be quite difficult.

Partial dentures are available in several different styles.

  • Metal framework partial dentures – These are, by far, the most common type of denture. They use a resin-and-acrylic design, and anchor to the surrounding teeth using a specialized wire framework that holds them in place.
  • Flexible partial dentures – We offer flexible partial dentures from Valplast. They use a flexible, plastic design that does not require any wires or framework, making them a more comfortable option for some patients.
  • Acrylic partial dentures – Acrylic partial dentures are typically used as a temporary tooth replacement, but some patients choose to use them long-term due to their low cost.

Full Arch Dentures

Full arch dentures are used to replace the entire upper or lower arch of the teeth, or both arches. This means that all of your teeth must be removed before you can wear a pair of full dentures.

Full dentures are typically only needed after extreme cases of periodontal disease or oral hygiene neglect, or if an impact injury like a car accident has damaged or destroyed most of the teeth.

Most dentures are built in two parts. The base is made from a specialized resin, or Valplast plastic, and designed to fit snugly over the gumline, so that friction holds the dentures in place without any kind of dental adhesive. The teeth are built from resin or porcelain, depending on the brand and quality of the denture. Typically, dentures must be measured and applied 2-3 months after the extraction of your remaining teeth.

However, we also offer immediate dentures, which can replace your teeth on the day they are extracted, and aid in the healing process. With this treatment, a soft liner is applied to the denture and replaced periodically as your gums heal. Once the gums have healed completely, the denture can be permanently relined or rebased for a permanent fit and restoration.
